Baby Bunny Update

The bunnies are almost a week old now. It looks like they are going to make it. We can tell that two are white and one is brown and white, like mom. Don't know if the white babies will be albino or not. Eyes are still closed, fur is growing in, and movement is taking off. Two are spoken for. We only have one who needs a home and I think Sister#2 will cave in and take it. Pictures as soon as they are furry and mobile.

  1. Ooh, how exciting! Because our country has had terrible trouble with wild rabbits in the past, it's absolutely, completely illegal to have bunnies of any type here (Queensland. In other states I think you can get a license.) You can't even get a license or become a breeder or anything in Queensland. So this is new and exciting and sort-of deliciously forbidden for me! Can't wait for photos!

  2. Yes, Yes, pictures please! When I was about 6 years old, my aunt and uncle gave me a bunny for Easter - against my mother's wishes. I named him Johnny and was very happy. My neighbor, who raised rabbits, knew my mother was not thrilled with my new pet. He asked if he could have the bunny if it was a female. Mom said yes. It turned out that Johnny was really Joannie! And after a little while living at the neighbor's house, she had beautiful babies. -- Wing Nut

  4. Hi Givinya, I can't imagine not having our bunnies. Feel free to live vicariously through my crew.

Hey there Wing Nut, Great story about your mommy bunny. Raising them is fun.

Hidee Joy, yes the socks are here to stay. As soon as their eyes are open and they don't look like rats, I will post some pictures.

  5. Aww! I can't wait, I think bunnies are adorable. We had some wild baby bunnies once a couple of years ago. They're so soft and fuzzy with those large soul-filled eyes. Poor things though, Angel found them and wanted to play. She accidentally killed one of them. I sure was sad.

  7. Know what you mean about the fragility, Deb! My very first bunny was a wild baby I discovered after I came upon a bunny nest in our yard. Our dog had inadvertently killed the other bunnies by trying to "play" with them. I was probably in sixth garde at the time. I took the orphan bunny inside and fed it with--believe it or not--a sterilized Jergens pump-dispenser bottle so I could make sure it got milk! Despite my total ignorance of rabbits, the bunny thrived, and when it was grown, I released it into the yard. It came to visit us for many years thereafter. I guess that's why I've always loved rabbits, and keep a few here at Hawk's Haven, ostensibly for their pellets (perfectly balanced fertilizer), but really 'cause I just love them. Waiting for your baby pictures like everyone else!!!

  8. HI ofb, I've said it before and I will say it again, "Bunny poo is the very best poo" A bonus is the poo machine is so cute and cuddly. We have rehabed a few wild bunnies when the next was distroyed with missed success.

    Pictures soon, I promise.
