Hot Compost and a Rainstorm

Hip-hip-hooray. My compost pile heated up to 120. I was hoping for 140, but I can live with 120. It is working and should make good compost in three weeks. I know I should let this go and just live with a cold pile, but the competitive streak in me is strong almost as strong as the stubborn streak. I want to dominate the compost pile. I want the compost pile to yield to my will. I want the compost pile to obey me. Pretty sure a bunch of microbes could care less what Aunt Debbi wants.

We had rain today. Unfortunately, we did not get the rain barrel installed, maybe next time. It felt so good outside. The temp dropped into the 70's from the 90's. There was a little thunder and lightening, but nothing major. It was a nice rainstorm, unlike those that have been drowning other parts of the country.

  1. Boy, folks in other parts of the country are seeing the wrath of mother nature. Not just this country, but obviously much, much worse in other parts of the world. You're doing your part for the environment, so hats off to ya!

  2. Glad things are heating up. Lots of cellular activity. I was out in the garden with all my six legged friends today. WE bond.

  3. Hot compost--yay!!!! Temps in the 70s--grrr!!! (It's in the high 90s here, with humidity to match. But I'm not bitter...) Looks like we'll be getting rain--though sadly, not a dropoff of heat--later today, too. just in time!

  4. Hi Anna, glad you are having fun with your buggy friends.

Ofb, I was pretty much gloating yesterday with our cool afternoon. I am going to pay for it today- heat and humidity. Yikes.

  5. If you get those microbes to obey you, please send some to me up here in Montana, where I've been thrilled to see 90F. I need to reread everything and then rebuild the whole pile. Grrr...

  6. Hi Kate, The compost actually made it to 130. This has not happened since last summer. I have dominated the compost pile.

  7. Dominate the compost bin? lol

  8. Of all the things one could attempt to dominate, you want to dominate the compost pile?? You really are an odd chickie, aren't you?

BTW - love the monkeys' pizzas. Great sense of humor and theater!

  9. Tina, still at 130 I am the queen of compost.

Wing Nut, You have not idea just how odd. Thanks for the monkey love.
