Planning My Fall Garden

It is early Saturday morning and my family is asleep. I am all alone. This never happens. Shhh....don't wake them. I am not used to being alone and it turns out I am bored.

Boredom combined with nice cool weather has led me to begin planning my fall garden. A quick look at the seed stash revealed sugar snap peas, Swiss chard, lettuce, scarlet Nantes carrots, edamame, collards, pole beans, and broccoli raab. I will need to buy broccoli and cabbage plants. Hopefully, the nurseries have them already. I know I am really bored and I know I am going to regret this, but I am going to plant a sweet potato. I have just enough time to get it in the ground and maybe get some tubers. The morning glories are going crazy so certainly now would be a good time to plant their relative. Maybe I should put it in a container?

Oops, they woke up. Gotta go.

  1. I get up early just so I can have a few precious hours to myself. It's nice to sit outside & sip my coffee with no "Mom" this or "Mom" that. Gives me a chance to wakeup fully. :) Sounds like you have a good plan in mind. The sweet potato I would grow in a container. :)

  2. I haven't had luck with my morning glories this year. I think I ended up with too much shade or something. My seeds just don't amount to much. Must be doing something wrong. I love being alone; would never feel boredom, I don't think! I'm a loner except for the blogs!

  3. A good time to plan! The sweet potatoes sound good, maybe just in time for Thanksgiving. Yum!

  4. I have so many seeds waiting to be sown for my fall garden and I need to get my you know what in gear too! Maybe I need to steal a few early morning hours like yourself to help organize my thoughts on the coming season.

  5. HI pg, they usually are awake before I am. I just got lucky this morning. The sweet potato is in a container.

Hi brenda, I used to be by myself a lot. I waited until I was 30 to start my family so my 20's we all my own. I didn't used to mind it at all. I have a feeling, when they grow up, I will be perfectly happy with a few solitary moments.

That's right dave. Sweet potato fries for thanksgiving.

Hi cindy, the planning was easy. Now for the actual work.
