I thought it might be time for a few updates
The carpenter finished the bridge over the bog garden. Isn't it pretty? Ignore the Monkey.
The pink containers are recycled cattle feed buckets. Some of the plants I want to use on this project can be invasive and we are hoping the containers will provide a barrier as well as holding more water around the plants roots.
I found a way to increase my rainwater harvesting capacity. It looks pretty redneck, but it works. This is another way to recycle those cattle feed buckets. Remember our cute little pumpkin. Well, look at her now. There are a few spots that are beginning to turn orange. I don't think it will get really big, but I don't care. This is my first pumpkin success. I did not have to cull any of the other baby pumpkins. They shriveled up and turned yellow without any help from me.
I like your bridge in the bog garden. That's a great way to recycle those cattle feed buckets, it should contain your invasives pretty well. Your baby pumpkin has really gotten bigger!
ReplyDeleteVery nice bridge! What kind of plants are you planning on putting in? Those feed buckets look like a good idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks pg. I did not design the bridge. We have a great carpenter.
ReplyDeleteHi dave, the plant list is umbrella sedge, horse tail reed, zebra grass, ribbon grass, iris, water celery, pitcher plants, venus flytrap, sundew, and blackeyed susan.
I would LOVE a bridge like that. I keep eyeing them up when I see them. Of course I couldn't buy one though, it would have to be built from our pile of lumber.
ReplyDeleteI also think that you are finding great ways to recycle those cattle feed buckets. Does that make me a northern redneck? Well, I did get a sunburn on my neck watching son's scrimmage Saturday...
Looks great, Debbi! Can't wait to see the "after" photos when the plants are in and growing! And congrats on that pumpkin! My own compost-pile squash vine is laden with gorgeous green-striped squashes, and I'm watching to see how big they'll get. It's exciting!

ReplyDeleteHi cinj, I am so grateful we have this wonderful carpenter to work on our mg projects. Everything is turning out nice. I have sunburned my scalp along my part. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteHi ofb, the plants should be in before the end of next month. Congratulations on the squash.
I'm coming over for that bridge. I want it!
ReplyDeleteThe bridge looks good, and it sounds like you have the planting all figured out too. It would look very nice with some blue flowers near the bridge, making a river for it to cross over.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it vp.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea northern shade. I can use bog sage and it would just do the trick. The areas outside of the containers will be "mulched" with river rock making it look sort of like a dry creek bed.
You're going to have to give me some pointers.
ReplyDeleteI'm not growing squat!
Of course, it could be because my neighbors dog keep peeing on the patio. *sigh*
