Humming Bird Shower
Something really cool just happened. I was out in the garden watering with the water hose because the rain barrel is dry. In order to get the water to a few plants a little out of the reach of the hose, I sprayed water through the air to the plants. A little green and grey humming bird flew up and just hovered. Then she began flying through the water drops. She must have taken a ten minute shower. I was too amazed to move, so the purple hull beans got over watered.

How fantastic is that? Wow, I'd like to see something so beautiful. I'm sure your breath was just taken away in surprise at such an unexpected sight. The over-watering was worth it!

That's awesome. I think our hummingbirds have left for the year already, I haven't seen them in a while. That poor bird must have been roasting. As long as things aren't overwatered too often it will be fine!
ReplyDeleteWow! Don't you wish you had camera in hand? They have really been hitting my flowers and the feeder hard this past week. Guess they are getting ready to leave us for better winter weather. I always miss seeing them once they are gone.
ReplyDeleteBrenda, it was cool.
ReplyDeleteCinj, they are on their southern migration and will hang around for a couple of weeks.
zzzzHI meadowview thymes, they are so much fun while they last. I know they will be on their way soon.
The same thing happened to my friend in Arizona, Madam Zelda! I have had a close encounter, one zoomed passed my head so close, I could hear the buzz.
ReplyDeleteNola, we have had them buzz us trying to keep us away from the feeders. This is the first time one seemed like it wanted to be with me. It was incredible.
ReplyDeleteHow cool was that! I would of loved to seen it.
ReplyDeleteRaquel, it was awesome. I felt so special.
ReplyDeleteWow Debbi! How delightful! Apparently hummers are the best reason to have a little spray fountain in your birdbath---they just love flying through and taking baths! I'd love to see that here, but I suspect the outdoor cats would, also, so I just stick to enjoying them on the rose-of-Sharons and other hummingbird-friendly plants. What fun!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat! Too bad there was not someone with a camera to take a pic of that. Take a bow! Apparently you just made that little birds day. : )
ReplyDeleteHi ofb, I can't have feeders close to the house because of the cats. They have been all over the garden from the rose of sharon to the salvias. Just too cute.
ReplyDeleteEve, I wanted to go get the camera so bad, but I knew if I moved she would fly away.
I intend to make a boggarden too.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll put a killifish in it.
I looked up the killifish and that looks like a very nice fish for a wetter bog.
ReplyDeleteIt even gets too cold there for them? No wonder they're so small with all of the flying they have to do!
ReplyDeletecinj, maybe if I would move a little more I could be small too:)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I love when nature has magical moments like that. That's why gardening is so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Hi Cindy, I love it when nature causes me to freeze and pay attention.
ReplyDeleteDebbi - that's so cool. Aren't you just in awe when you can get that close to nature and take it all in?
