Today was the day. I picked the pumpkin. In a little bit, I will go out into my garden and remove all of the wild pumpkin vines. This should do a lot to tidy things up. I saw some pumpkin costumes in a magazine the other day. So I will begin sewing pumpkin costumes soon. I think a cat mask would look quite handsome. Anyway, this pumpkin is going to be around a while as a decoration for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and just fall in general. Since it will be part of the family for a while before we eat it, I think we should give it a name. Any suggestions?

Well, Debbi, it reminds me somewhat of myself. Cockeyed. It is a bit cockeyed. When I look at it, that is the first word that comes to mind! Can't believe you grew a big pumpkin. How much does that sucker weigh, for the record?
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Brenda, it weighs five pounds. It does sit a little loopsided doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteYou can't name something you are going to eat. I learned that as a child when my grandmother raised pigs. You know what happened, the pig became bacon and none of us kids would eat it!
ReplyDeletenola, hahahaha. I don't think you can get as attached to a pumpkin as you can to a pig.
ReplyDeleteHe is going to look pretty snazzy with his costumes Deb.
ReplyDeleteCarver..it sounds distinguished. He needs to wear glasses if you do that.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you! We tried years ago to grow pumpkins and had no luck. It's a beautiful pumpkin too! What a special fall decoration!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so great!
ReplyDeletepgl, I have already started a list of costumes for still nameless Mr. Pumpkin. cockeyed carver is what we have so far.
ReplyDeleteI like it anna. I already have a pattern for pumpkin glasses.
Meadowview Thymes, If I had tried to grow it, it would have died. Trust me. In the past a lot of pumpkin vines have died on me.
Thanks Tina.
That pumpkin looks great, Debbi! I'm hugely impressed! I also like Anna's suggestion of the name Carver. One of my favorite childhood novels was Lorna Doone, and its dashing hero (portrayed as always as the villain against a boring blockhead supposed hero) was Carver Doone, the leader of the piratical band. You could call your pumpkin Carver Doone and refer to him as Mr. Doone, Squire Doone, or even Lord Doone on formal occasions!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, ofb. I have got to check out those books for the monkeys. Sounds like something they would like.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I like "Carver", I agree with Brenda that it tilts a bit...how about "Eileen"? (You know, "I-Lean"? Ha! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I like Lisa's idea. LOL. Pisa? (As in the leaning tower of pisa)
ReplyDeleteQuince may also work since it weighs 5 pounds.
Lisa, hahahaha:)
ReplyDeletecinj, y'all are crackin me up.
Wow. I'm so impressed. That is a stellar specimen. I think your idea of costumes is a hoot. No ideas on the name, though. Oh - how about Gordy? (Like gourd-y!) But then is it a girl or a boy?!!
ReplyDeletediana, Although logically the gender should be female, in my bloggy silliness, I have declared it a male. We are having a lot of fun with it.
