Brrrrrr

The cold front came in at about 3:00 this afternoon. Of course I had just started a fire in the chiminea and had completely torn up the giant compost disaster. So I had flames shooting out of the top of the chiminea and compost flying all over the place. Then, of course, it started to rain. I am lucky this way. Let me start a big messy project, and the wind and rain will show up to get me wet and and covered in mud. Thanks Mother Nature, thanks a lot. Somehow, I didn't catch the house on fire and the compost is now back in two piles instead of a giant mess all over the back of the garden.

It is going to get down into the 40's tonight. This is winter weather around these parts. Hopefully, we will get a little more rain to get the fall veggies off to a good start. The tomatoes are not long for this world. I hope the fruits get big enough for me to bring in to ripen in a bowl on the table.

How is your weather?

  1. Yes, you have a lot of compost. I turned on my fireplace this afternoon. We are in the tween stage. In between hot and cold. I didn't want to turn on the heat this afternoon so I just started the fireplace. Love that little switch!

  2. Anna, I envy your house. We have no fireplace just that outside chiminea set up. Then we get to be hot and cold.depending on which side faces the fire.

  3. Sounds like Mother Nature was just trying to keep you from setting the place on fire, Deb!
Plus, the rain kept the 'dust' down, right? hahahaha Oh. Sorry.

Brrrrr, is right! I'll bet our poor little peppers and maters are shaking in their roots tonight....

  4. vonne, I think I inhailed too much compost before the little bit of rain put the dust down. brrrr is right, the peppers and maters are doomed.

  8. We've been getting down into the 40-50's at night and the afternoon temps are in the 70's. It's perfect gardening weather.

  9. I laughed with you too, Debbi, out loud (and then felt guilty about chortling at your tribulations). I think it's going to get colder here over the weekend, down from around 60F to 48F on Monday, thanks to clear sunny skies. I'm not going anywhere near a compost heap or a chiminea, though!

  11. Girl, it got down to 39 here last night! craaaaaaaaaap, too cold for me! And what in the world is goin on with your posts? I was caught up with my reading (so I thought) and this morning, Google Reader shows 25 new posts! Is that right? I'd better get another pot of coffee and start reading.
I am getting excited, if nothing out of the ordinary happens, I am driving over to the bulb sale Saturday; pray for nice weather!

  12. Gack, it's been in the 20s here at night with high winds. Our tomato and hot pepper plants are toast (the arugula still looks good, as do all alliums). Barely got the deck plants hauled back into the greenhouse in time! Brrrr is right. I'm not ready! Fire up the chiminea and drink some dark-rumspiked cider, say I. And welcome back to Blotanical at last! I was starting to lose hope...

  13. Weather like this has me missing the fireplace I left behind. It's been getting down into the twenties and up to the 40's or so during the day. It's pretty normal for this time of year. I'd love to have your winter weather up here, it sounds warmer than my fall has been. We might be getting some snow already this weekend. I don't like getting snow before hallowen!

I'm thinking about setting up my tabletop greenhouse in my new craft room this weekend so I can keep some plants in the house over the winter. Maybe it'll keep me from grumbling too much about the snow not melting.

  15. That's right tina. What a mess.

Sounds nice Racquel. Now that the wind has died down, it is perfect here as well.

Victoria, that's right watch out for those gardening hazards.

Hi nola, apparently my blog was not creating any feeds at all. Opps. I will be at the master gardener booth from 11:00 til 2:00. Hope to see you there.

ofb, your way of handling this weather sounds perfect to me. I do still have to get things into the greenhouse.

Cinj, you are not going to believe what a big baby I am going to turn into over the next few months. I don't like being cold. If I was up there with you, I would just have to hibernate.

Meadowview, I need to fire mine up more often. Do you know where we can get some pinon (sp) wood around here?

  16. Hell, this isn't cold! I rarely get out of my shorts and t-shirts. I just don't ever get very cold. But then I came from Oklahoma. Growing up in those blustery winds are cold. And I rarely even wore a coat there!

  17. Brenda, I am a total whimp when it comes to the cold. I don't like it at all. Today was beautiful though, wasn't it.
