Here is a picture of my passion vine (Passiflora incarnata) commonly known as may pop. This vine is currently 33 feet long after I cut six feet off of it yesterday. It is growing in full sun on one end, part shade in the middle, and deep shade towards the end. I never water it. Gulf fritillary butterflies lay their eggs on it and the scary looking caterpillars eat it up. During the late summer, it is covered up in beautiful orange butterflies and orange and red striped spiky caterpillars. Very nice habitat.
Here is the very exotic looking flower.
Today, I met Nola of Alamo North. She and her husband are a lovely couple. She commented on my passion vine when she saw it in the background of a picture I posted a week or so ago. I brought a division of the passion vine with me just in case she showed up to the Scarecrow Festival in Kaufman. She showed. What a very exciting day. I met someone from the blogosphere and she wasn't a scary person. After yesterday's post, I would have thought she might want to avoid me.
My master gardener group had a booth at the Scarecrow Festival. We gave out information, calenders, and sold some native and adapted bulbs (daffodils, gladiolas, pinks). I would now go on and on about the Kaufman County Master Gardeners, but Nola did a fine job of that for me on her blog today.
It was great to meet you Nola. Enjoy the passion vine, I sure do.
I've enjoyed meeting fellow bloggers this year. Like you I was a bit nervous about it at first, but every single meeting has been a real pleasure.
ReplyDeleteAnd I treasure the plant gifts I've been given from them too.
That must be the reason Nola posted Aunt Debbi rocks! Too cute. What a beautiful passion vine and isn't it neat meeting other bloggers? Lots of fun. I am going to meet one this morning myself. This will the 9th blogger I have met (not including Skeeter and commenters) I consider it garden networking and really like to meet the folks I talk to on the net. What a nice gift for Nola!
ReplyDeleteWell, when Nola's get's big enough, I'll have her divide some for me too! I don't consider you half as scary as me, by the way.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hi vp, I remember when you met esther. Very fun.
ReplyDeleteTina, there are at least five of us in this area. One is actually a blogger, but a commentor. It would be cool to meet them all.
Brenda, I have plenty that have rooted out in my paths. Let me know if you want some.
It was so good to meet you Debbi! I will treasure the passion vine, and you can bet I'll be posting updates on its progress! Now I've gotta get out to Tyler to meet Brenda!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you were able to meet each other. And of course you brought a piece of your garden to share with Nola. Gardeners are the most generous people!
ReplyDeleteThis is great, Debbi! (And your passion vine's great, too.) Everyone's right here---gardeners are the best! We're hoping we can manage to meet Frances when we go to Nashville for Thanksgiving. Maybe we'll get out your way one of these days and check those Monkeys out for ourselves!
ReplyDeleteHi Nola, I know you will take good care of it. I just hope I got you enough roots.
ReplyDeleteRacquel, I agree. The passion vine was a division from from a fellow gardening friend's yard. Now I am just passing it along.
Ofb, This is my first face to face with another blogger. I wish we could have met Dee while we were in Oklahoma. Maybe next time.
Aunt Debbi/Kurt's Mom, Just got back from another meeting with another blogger. In this case we all spent four hours with her and her husband in a quaint little town. It was BETTER THAN GREAT to make a new friend! I was the first blogger she met. I never knew there was so much hesitation until I read your post about meeting Nola just this morning. For me, the meetings are a wonderful bonus of blogging, ever since I met Gail in Nashville, and Frances invited us to her beautiful Faire Garden. Another part of the interaction but probably not for everyone. I am so surprised you five have not gotten together yet. 6 of us Tennessee bloggers have had a get together and hope to have another one. Such fun. Anyhow, nuff on my soapbox.
ReplyDeleteTina, I think we sometimes worry about freaky people on the internet. Luckily garden bloggers are a great group. After sticking my toe in, I feel a lot more comfortable with the face to face. Trust me, I will be inviting all of you to plenty of other events.
ReplyDeleteGreat!
ReplyDeleteWho all lives in this area? You, me, Brenda, Tina, who else? We should get together somewhere in the middle, or some festival or fair. My hubby always worried that "the people on blogs aren't who they say they are"; now I've proved him wrong! Now I feel comfy meeting people (since the pumpkins got axed, not me), so I'm gonna make it a point to meet more bloggers out there.
ReplyDeleteNola, If you are referring to this Tina (I think you are-if not-sorry!), I live in Tennessee. I've met several bloggers here and other states. Perhaps someday we'll all meet up. Spring Fling perhaps? Of the bloggers and/or commenters I have met (nearing a dozen), they have all been wonderful folks just like they are on the Internet. Rue the day something is different though.
ReplyDeleteNola, the other near by blogger is meadowview thymes. I agree, we need to meet up. Your husband looked a little shocked when I shook his hand. I am sure my explaination, "we know each other from the internet" didn't help. However, he was very nice. Sorry about the vegetable stabbings, I could not help myself. No need to be worried.
ReplyDeleteTina, come on down to Texas. We will feed you something fried and wonderful. Then we will drag you all over the place showing off our plants. Finally, we will give you a passion vine, just because we can.
Thanks! That is awful sweet of you!
