A few times a year I get motivated to try to get back into shape. Like most Americans, I need to lose a few pounds. I usually start walking or take a class. Unfortunately, I always get side tracked by Monkeys, my garden, or something one of my sisters is doing. I guess my fits and spats of healthful thinking have kept me from weight 300 lbs, but they certainly have not brought me back down to pre-Baby Monkey size or condition.
Recently, I have been inspired to start again. I bought one of those step meters and thought I would see what would happen if I just worked around the house and yard all day. I cleaned house for about six hours. I spent another 45 minutes or so in the garden. I would usually spend more time in the garden, but it was cold and windy today.
After a little less than 7 hours on my feet, the pedometer says I have walked 2.27 miles. I am officially slower than a tree sloth. YEAH!!!
Check out my sister's craft blog In Stitches. She has a couple of giveaways.

I'd check the meter. Borrow one you know works. I got one but never got it up and running; sometimes it noticed when I walked, sometimes not. (Was yours ticking away dutifully?)
ReplyDeleteOf course, you could always throw it on the floor and jump up and down on it. That would use a few calories. Or give it to the monkeys to play catch with.

Kate, I love your sense of humor. Seriously, when I stopped and counted the damned steps the stupid thing was working. Apparently, I don't move very much. The house, however, is much cleaner.
ReplyDeleteI am with Kate. It is obviously not working properly. I think you probably lost several pounds after all that work.
ReplyDeleteNow pop down here and count the steps cleaning MY house. Please?
Been there, done that! Tried the pedometer, found I didn't walk much. So I went and bought a treadmill. The only exercise I get from it is when I move it from one spot in the garage to another. I guess I am a contented sloth; movement is just soooooo over-rated!
ReplyDeleteHubby got me one of those pedometers (hint, hint, I suppose). But the contraption is too complicated for me to figure out... Good excuse, huh? I still can't figure out the digital timer for the oven. Always resort to using that little tick-tick one from the old days!

Foxy, maybe if I walk to Australia, I would be skinny. Wait I would be drowned.
ReplyDeleteNola, hahahaha
Brenda, I love old wind up clocks and timers.
Me too! I'm hitting the streets in my neighborhood and getting ready for next summer's shorts. I need to work on my arms too. I look like the flabby teacher whose kids make fun of those arms behind her back.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I sooooo needed a laugh today. Am having a very crappy day. Jumping up and down on the pedometer would certainly use up cals--and you'd never have to worry about the pedometer again!

Those pedometers! I bought one of those cheap ones for each member of the family a few years ago. Son pretends he's been walking and I've caught him shaking his to get it to count extra steps that he didn't actually take. Kid must be pretty smart (also creative and lazy) to come up with a plan like that.
ReplyDeleteI think I need a candy bar dangled from a stick hanging a few feet in front of me so I walk more to try to get it. It works in the cartoons, right? One of these days I'll get that gym finished too so I'll have something else to dust.
Anna, maybe we can motivate each other. I have not even given my arms a thought.
ReplyDeleteCurmudgeon, glad to help lift your mood. I am about ready to throw that stupid contraption out the window.
Cinj, hahahaha. Fantastic, what a kid.
If you're officially the slowest land mammal, you're also officialy the most efficient house-cleaner I've ever heard of.
