It's That Quilting Time of Year Again

It's that time of year again. There will be more pictures of quilt blocks and fewer pictures of the garden.
The new turquoise and and lime green Dresden plate blocks are for our annual family reunion. I have to have this finished by the first weekend in December. Yikes, what have I gotten myself into. This is a fun family party. Manly Man's mom is the oldest of five children. There are lots of grand kids, and lots and lots of great grand kids. The party is huge. We can't really exchange individual gifts. We used to do a kids exchange, but it got to big. Now we just bring a gift for our own children and do something like a white elephant exchange for the adults. Some of the grownup gifts have been pretty funny. One year an uncle contributed a tow chain. Another year I managed to score and old milk can. The quilts have been pretty popular. This is a way I can give quilts to this side of the family without being completely overwhelmed.
BTW, how did Thanksgiving end up next freaking week? It feels like this year is flying by.
Well hell, I have to print a correction. My 2008 mastergardener calender has an error. Thanksgiving is 11/27 DUR. I feel a little better. Thanks for catching it Nola.

  1. Well, it's just the two of us for the holidays. And who knows, he may be working at the hospital. Haven't asked yet. So it may be nice and quiet. Can't beat that for a hermit like me! I love that you're quilting. It's just something you can't describe, the serenity it brings you.

  2. I love to quilt and have a few started this year, that were started last year, where the fabric was purchased the year before that--and I took the class in 1980. Do you feel better now? Just take the pic you have and get it photocopied--give it them and say--someday soon you'll get this.

  3. Brenda, sounds nice and relaxing. Our place is going to be a zoo. or at least the monkey house at the zoo.

Anna, If I remember right we have similar sewing nooks. Look forward to seeing some of your work.

I have three quilts in the works right now. My family knows they may not get their wedding quilt before their first anniversary. The family reunion quilts are much smaller and I always get them done.

  6. Fourth Thursday in November, Deb! You still have 2 weeks until Tanksgiving; you scared me to death, I had to stop and go look at my calendar!
Crap, I got so upset thinking Thanksgiving was next week, I can't even remember what I was going to comment!

  8. This year sure is flying by. Even if Thanksgiving isn't next week, it might as well be the way the year has been flowing past us.

I have tons of fabric, quilting books, and stuff that I bought right after my mom gave me my sewing machine I just had to have for my birthday a couple of years ago. (Or was that 4 years ago?) I hope I make a quilt of my own soon instead of only fixing quilts that other people have made.

What do you mean going to be a zoo? Isn't it already a zoo? My house is!

  9. I think your quilt will be beautiful. Good for you. Not sure when we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving, hubby will be working that day and I don't know what my new days off will be. It may end up being "Thanksgiving in December".

  11. Cinj, it is flying past, but I am happy to know I do have an extra week I wasn't aware of. My oldest friend, meaning the friend I have known since babyhood, has tons of fabric she collects every year, but has yet to make a quilt.

victoria, we have had to delay celebrating holidays until everyone could get together. It sort of took the stress out of it. Thanks for the quilt compliment.

Thanks Racquel, I need to keep working or it will end up tiny.
