Mailbox Suprise

I am so excited I can barely stand it. My morning trip to the mailbox revealed two great things about winter. The first Christmas card and SEED CATALOGS. YEAH. The 2009 Vermont Bean Seed Company and Totally Tomatoes catalogs arrived today.
This gets my gardening imagination going. This year I want to try garbanzo beans, Jerusalem artichokes, and celeriac. I will get Celebrity tomatoes again. They were the plants that caused the great green tomato glut of fall 2008. If I plant them in the spring, there should be plenty of tomatoes for canning.
Okay, gotta go now, must study catalogs. Oh lookie, there are tools.
WEEEEE....
Now go see what Joy has to say about catalogs and magazines.

  1. I think catalogs are natures way of keeping gardeners going during winter. I save mine, read and re-read them, make lists, draw diagrams. That continues all winter.

  2. Celariac's brilliant. Which is just as well as the variety I've just ordered for next year is called Brilliant!

    It's much easier than celery...

  3. Oh how exciting! We have so much work to do on our yard before we even start thinking about a garden. I hope that everything gets done by spring.

  4. Seed catalogs are just what you need to brighten up wintery days! I've been planning seed purchases since Pinetree's catalog came in the mail.

  6. Love celeriac! We just made a fall veggie tart with celeriac, leeks and brussel sprouts. I think it's lunchtime here!

  7. Nola, I have a winter garden, but still the seed catalogs make me dream of spring.

VP, I think I may need to plant it now. It looks like something that our heat would kill.

Shala, I am sure y'all will do a great job with the yard. Consider one of the square foot setups. Easier than putting in a full garden and grows tons of veggies.

    Dave, Exactly

Blossom, It seems that once you order one you end up on the mailing lists for others.

    Curmudgeon, that sounds so good.

  10. I can't wait to get one! Robert has all the doors up today; just not all the framing. I asked when I could open the house up to it. In other words, see how much light we're going to have. But he said he wasn't taking down the things blocking the view until he's totally done. (He has that room all blocked off.) Painting and everything! Oh, I can't wait to sit in that room with a garden catalog and a cup of coffee!

  15. I just got that same tomato seed catalog in the mail yesterday, too! A great surprise--I had never heard of that company before (I thought maybe they got my name from Blotanical.) I spent at least an hour paging thorugh it last night.

  16. Susan, They got my name because I own and run a tiny landscaping and design company. It came to "Sister's Garden Service" Blotanical didn't have anything to do with it. Still, I love it.
