Neat Little Shops in East Dallas

Saturday, I went to an advanced Google class with my coworker, Kathy. Yes, it is worth it to take an advanced Google class.

After the class we had a sandwiches Jimmy's Food Store in east Dallas. This is an Italian food store and deli. The sandwiches were to die for. I had a grilled ham and cheese with habanero sauce. It had an Italian name, but I cannot remember it. Kathy had a muffuletta that was almost as big as her head. She didn't finish hers. I ate all of mine.

Here is Kathy buying some meat and produce from the store. They had great stuff. There were wonderful capers. I love capers. I didn't buy any. There has to be a good excuse to go back. Doesn't Kathy have nice hair?

Here she is down the street outside a little hole in the wall restaurant supply place. They sell Texas grown, processed, and bottled olive oil. Unfortunately, they were out when we visted. The did have some yellow tomatoes. Kathy bought one.

Here are some great nasturtium outside the shop.

Tomorrow I will tell you what was just down the street from these shops. Can you wait? Do you know already?

  2. We might have. We were the two library ladies who did not know how to order sandwiches. Everyone was so nice, customers as well as employees. They sort of took care of us.

  3. It is so funny - I looked at that picture and thought: Nice hair! And soon after that, I read: Doesn't Kathy have nice hair? I started to laugh!
Your post made me crave for Italian food.

  4. Tatyana, Yes she has very nice hair. In fact, all the library ladies I work with have nice hair. If you could smell that place right now, you would really be craving italian.

  5. Don't keep us in suspense too long Deb! I'm dying to know what was down the street. :) I can smell the yummy sandwiches from here, now I'm hungry and it's too late to eat. :(

  6. Racquel, Wait, there is a time that is too late to eat? I miss the notice. Maybe this is why I will never be skinny:(

  7. I will have to check this place out. Do they have tables to eat there or is it take out only?

Can you tell me where do you buy your dirt? Clueless me just realized although my neighbor created beds in my backyard, I can't plant anything in that clay stuff with all the grass roots mixed in without adding a lot of topsoil and compost.

Thought it might be cheaper to see about having a company deliver dirt.

  8. Sounds like you had a fun time. Grilled ham/cheese sounds yummy.
My nasturtiums froze)-: Guess the weather is milder there in Dallas(-:

  9. Ruth, they have tables and awesome atmosphere. If I were to buy dirt, and I don't, I would buy it from a company called Clay Structures. It is in far south east Dallas near Seagoville. Get landscapers mix. What I would buy, if I don't have my own, is compost. Compost will correct the problems we have with clay soil. If you live in Mesquite, you can get compost for free at the recycling center. If you don't live in Mesquite, you can pay them $8 for a yard.

Cindee, we have not had a hard freeze all winter. That ham and cheese concoction was worth the calories.

  10. I remember that area of Dallas; I worked at the corner of Bryan and Haskell for years (phone co). I am trying hard to think of what else in the area you are going to show us... hmm, can't think. Their nasturtiums look great; I've never had any luck with them.

  14. I was thinking she had nice hair too! I love Italian food and don't know of a single place around here that has any worth digesting. Might be worth a trip to Dallas. Do you need a cowboy hat and boots.

  15. Precisely what I was thinking before you mentioned it: that woman has great hair! Wish mine was as accommodating.
