Medical Issues

Went to have blood work done as part of our efforts to control my blood pressure and get myself healthy. I had gestational diabetes during each of my pregnancies. Now it looks like the blood sugar monster may be back. My fasting blood sugar was 138. It should be less than 120. This is the highest it has ever been. Now I've got to reevaluate my diet and lifestyle. My knee jerk reaction to this news was to stop at the farmers market and pick up what ever vegetables that we like and didn't already have in the house.

I just had zuccini, yellow squash, tomatoes, onion and garlic braised with just a little montery jack cheese melted on top at the end. It was really good.

Saying bye bye to simple carbs.

  1. So sorry, Debbi. Hope you can get it under control without too much trouble or revamping of your lifestyle. It just doesn't get any easier, does it? Here's sending you healthy karma.

  2. It's a daily battle, Debbi. Both my parents and my brother are diabetic, as well as everyone on hubby's side of the family. I know it's inevitable for us, so we try to watch our diets. Unsuccessfully most of the time, but we try!

  3. Debbi, I am sure this was a blow to you. but you seem to have a healthy attitude(no pun intended). I hope you can get it under control with diet and excercise-I know that is an imortant factor also.

  6. Diana, I am taking it as a blessed wakeup call. At least I can do something about it before there is some kind of erreversible damage.

Nola, I think I have reached the age where I can take this body seriously and seriously take care of it.

Beckie, I had been expecting it. My 40 year old younger very thin sister has the same problem. She is controlling it with diet and exercise and so will I.

Foxy, Luckily I love the veggies.

Monica, I know, but I have had to give them up before for the babies so it is not so hard for me.

  7. Don't know what Son's fasting blood level was from his dr visit yesterday but a1c was 6.1. Diabetic level is 6.2. Going to take him to Marshfield tomorrow. Good luck to us all!

  8. I'm feeling the same way---over 50, over weight, and please don't make me over budget. Good luck with it all--we are strong enough just not disciplined. We like too much food. But if you want to look good at 60, have you seen Sophia Loren? Man, what did she do? And Raquel Welch?
