Why?

I had to visit a big box store to purchase a replacement water pump for my little half whiskey barrel water garden. At the entrance to the garden center were two shopping carts loaded down with dozens of flats of dead lantana. The flats had not been watered. How long to you have to neglect to water lantana before it dies and dries out? I just don't understand.

  1. It's really upsetting to see the flats of dead and dying plants. And we don't even have the kind of heat you all get. BTW, if you can arrange it, wouldn't mind having a little hot air sent up our way. We've been hovering in the 50s and now we're reaearching ark building since the rain doesn't seem inclined to let up any time soon. --Curmudgeon

  2. Curmudgeon, oh my, temps in the 50 degree range are long gone for us. I hope you warm up soon. We could use some of your rain. I wish there was a weather exchange program for gardeners:)

  3. Weather exchange. Wouldn't that just be the neatest? It was in the 60's here today, but I could use some more rain here too. I want free water for all of my freshly planted plants. It's exhausting trying to remember to water all of them.

  5. We visited a home improvement store that also has plants not too long ago and their veggies looked so thirsty and sad. I just wanted to buy them all up and take good care of them. We have lost some plants but at least we try to keep them alive. These people weren't even trying! It's not that hard to water, don't they have people that are hired to do just that?

  6. cinj, weather exchange would rock, but then what would we gripe about?

shala, A friend of mine pointed out to a big box employee that the plants needed water. Their response, "Not my job." Sad

  7. Some big box store people just don't seem to care. Cheesehead hired someone specifically for plant watering, but he waters too. Poor thing watered yesterday and his socks were soaking wet. How many managers would you see doing that?
