Look what bloomed for me today. This is Cleredendrum ugandense or blue butterfly bush. It is not hardy here in zone 8a. This one is grown in a container and overwinters in my greenhouse. The bush is about four feet tall, but I have read that in areas where it is hardy, it can grow to 10 feet. This little flower makes me happy.
Letting the garden grow

Debbi, I do the same thing, grow stuff that isn't hardy in this zone. I guess you always want what you can't have. I've had pretty good success wintering plants over in the garage.
ReplyDeleteThat blue butterfly is really pretty, I don't think I've ever seen one before.
What a lovely little blue bloom. I don't blame you for wanting to keep this one for the garden.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very pretty flower. It's good to grow something that isn't fully hardy - makes it that little bit special if you can keep it going over the winter.
ReplyDeleteBlue is so pretty in the garden. I have never seen this flower before..is it hard to find?
ReplyDeleteHi Nola, I got it at the nursery I used to work at. The flowers were just to cute to resist. I need to put it in a bigger pot.
ReplyDeleteThanks pgl.
Easygardener, I absolutely agree. It does make them more special
Meadowview thymes, I got it in dallas. The grower is Monrovia. So I wouldn't think it would be that hard to find.
Mine is getting ready to bloom, but I know the wind is coming and the rain. So I doubt it will show itself before the wind and rain knock it down...

Hi Brenda, Hope the storms are not to bad but bring needed rain. I am hoping they make it here.
ReplyDeleteDeb
It would make me happy too. Such a pretty little flower.~~Dee
ReplyDeleteThanks Dee.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about sparks flying! Glad no one was hurt. What a mess. I think your neighbors are super good to fill up your compost bin and I love your rabbit hutch too. Enjoy the rain as we have none here:(
ReplyDeleteTina, thanks. So far there has been no rain.
ReplyDeleteThat little flower would make me very happy too. I haven't heard of it before but it's really pretty and something I'd try to overwinter too (although I have plenty of things in that category already!)
ReplyDeleteHI kathleen, it has overwintered in the greenhouse just fine for me for three years.
