GBBD September 2008 Fall Flowers

I have fall blooms. The Autumn Joy Clematis is in full bloom.

My passion vine is blooming like crazy again.

Here is my favorite fall combo. Turks cap blooming with ox blood lilies.

  1. Debbi-thanks for sharing your blooms. All very pretty. Is your turks' cap in shade or sun? My first try at these-hope they are in the right place!

  2. Very pretty blooms! Mine all seem to be on the way out up here in the frozen tundra of the north.

  6. Bless you Debbi; you just gave me information I've wanted for about 15 years. The ox blood lillies - I never knew what they were! I was going to post a photo this week and ask if anyone could identify them.
About 15 years ago, our neighbor brought a clump of them, in full bloom to my mother on Sept 11, her birthday. EVERY year, they are blooming on her birthday, so we just called them Mama's Birthday Flowers! Now I know the real name; but they will always be Mama's Birthday Flowers to me!

  7. Hi meadowview thymes, Mine is in the shade, but here in zone 8a they also grow in full sun.

Cinj, I am so glad for our long mild fall weather. I don't think I could stand a long winter.

Hi carol, thanks again for hosting gbbd.

Nola, how cool is that to have a plant that will reliably bloom on a birhday.

Hi Tina, they are one of my all time favorites for fall. I have a couple of lycoris, that have not popped up yet.

Diana, They are so easy and multiply like crazy. I got them from a little old lady in Kaufman and they have spread more and more every year.

  8. I love that Clematis. Is your lily what we know as Schizostylis aka Kaffir Lily?

  9. Hi vp, The lily is Rhodophiala bifida. It is an heirloom brought to Texas from Germany. Can't usually buy it in a nursery (if so very expensive). Most of them are pass along plants.

  11. Oh, yes, I agree that the Turks cap/Oxblood Lily combo is great! Not only do that match each other perfectly, but with the green foliage it makes a nice complementary color thing.

Thanks Mr. mcgregor's daughter, I would like to say I planned that, but it was just a happy accident.
