December 2008 GBBD

It was so cold today that I only could stay outside long enough to find one blooming plant for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day hosted by Carol of May Dreams Garden. This picture was taken at 9:00 o'clock tonight in freezing cold temperatures. I had to come back in as my fingers were hurting. Thanks for hosting this great event Carol.

As some of you may know, I started a new job last week. It is a position as a library clerk at a tiny local library. I don't feel comfortable blogging about the people that use the library. Let's just say it is very interesting and I love it. As I use the library myself, I will post about the books.

If you live here in the cold cold areas of the U.S. how are you staying warm?

  1. I'm glad you like the job. I bet you miss home too. I admire you for being a librarian. All I remember is the Dewey Decimal system. And I would be lost in any book section but gardening. You are a smart gal for sure.

  2. It's 26 here in Seattle and we're due to stay stuck in the 20s well into next week. They're saying it's the worst cold spell in over 30 years. We pulled out all our heavy winter gear from when we lived in the midwest. We may look like the Michelin tire man but we're warm!

  3. Hi Deb - glad the job's going well.

We've got the coldest start to winter for 30 years over here too. It's freezing fog today, just for a little variation.

So kudos to you for braving the cold just to satisfy our appetite for flowers at this time of the year :)

  4. Debbie .. Hello fellow library geek worker (although mine is past tense now) .. I was the 700 section, travel etc .. it was great working in an international library .. so many unusual people to work with and work for : )
So believe me .. I have seen some "odd" cases ! LOL
    I know what you mean : )
We are headed back for the freezer in Ontario .. after a reprise with rain and warm temps .. oh well that is Canadian EH ! haha

  5. You were very brave to get out at 9 PM just to take this photo! But if you want REAL cold, travel a little farther north:) But of course we are used to it--no gardening here at this time of year.

Enjoyed your tips for not what to do in the garden on a cold, windy day--I'll remember these:)

  6. I went out in the cold to get my pictures too and it turned into quite an adventure. My camera protested screeching loudly at me. Frances thinks it didn't want to take any more pictures in the cold.

I think working at the library would be fun. I was eyeing up some of the digital photography books the last time I was there, but right now I'm pouring through soap making books so I had to put other subjects on hold for now.

  7. Happy Bloom Day, Deb. I commend you for not writing about the library's patrons, although there are probably some great stories to tell. It's terribly cold here too. I had to come inside for anything to share.~~Dee

  8. My pansies are blooming, however, they are covered with ice. You are braver than me, no way would I poke my head out today!

  9. Anna, you would do just fine. It is not hard at all.

Curmudgeon, I loved that picture of your winter gear over on WWW. Stay warm.

VP, that was the quickest picture taking ever. I am a major cold weather whimp.

Hi Joy, It sounds like you worked in a much larger library than I am working in now. There are only four employees.

Rose, Thank you, but I do not want REAL cold weather. This is just about killing me. I am not brave, I am a whimp. Glad you enjoyed the windy day post, wind I can do, cold no.

Cinj, I don't blame your camera one little bit.

Dee, as interesting as they are, it just does not feel right. Hope you are able to stay warm.

Nola, I didn't stay out long.
