Do You Speak for the Trees?

This is one of my favorite books. I love almost any thing by Dr. Seuss, but this is the best. The message is about greed and the outcome of greed on the enviornment. Still, it leaves us with the hope of that seed.

Do you speak for the trees?

What is your favorite childrens' book?

  1. I have too many to count, so I'll just mention Murmel Murmel Murmel, by Robert Munsch and M. Martchenko, in which a five year old girl named Robin finds a baby in her sandbox and tries to find a home for it. Her technique, which is to ask everyone she meets, "Do you need a baby?" is met by inane questions such as "Does it pee its pants?" from an old lady, or "Can it wash my car?" from a man. Of course, eventually she meets someone (a truck driver) who does need a baby. It's a very funny book.

I am thrilled that my best friend's two-year old is now of an age to enjoy it!

  2. Yes, I do speak for the trees. Had a real fight on my hands only last year when irresponsible business owners behind me was having an incompetent tree "trimmer" whack on a grove of eucalyptus where hawks nest year after year. I found the best leverage was to contact a big television news station in San Francisco. Despite some attempts to sneak in and cut when they weren't supposed to, we saved the grove and the hawks have come back. They were teaching their young to fly a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful sight.

My favorite Dr Suess book is "Oh the places you'll go!" I gave it to my kids for high school graduation. I cry everytime I read it! :)

  6. So many wonderful childrens' books, it's hard to choose a favourite. "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch is definitely one of my favourites; Dr. Seuss was always well-loved in our household, too; "The Velveteen Rabbit", "The Polar Express", "Wind in the Willows". Oh my!

  7. Nancy, you are the second to mention Robert Munsch. I must go look and see what holdings we have in the library by this author.

I am surprised no one has mentioned "Guess How Much I Love You?" and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom"

  14. Anyone remember Maurice Sendak's "In the Night Kitchen"? Lots of his stuff is great, very whimsical and quirky for kids who like that stuff. He also wrote the "Little Bear" stories that were made into gentle and lesson teaching cartoons back in the 90s.

Enid Blyton's "Adventures of Pip" was a great favourite of mine when I was little.
