Monkey's Uncle

Brother #2, my monkeys' uncle, took his girl monkeys and two of my boy monkeys to kick the soccer ball at the high school football field this afternoon. Here is the conversation we had when he brought them home.

Monkeys' Uncle, "I lost your baby monkey."

Me, "Well, go find him."

Monkeys' Uncle, "Oh, I FOUND HIM. Guess where?"

Me," Clueless."

Monkeys' Uncle, " He crawled under the pole jump crash mat. All I could see was one tiny little foot hanging out."

Me, "How long was he missing?"

Him, "about thirty seconds."

Me, "Don't lose my kid."

In Other Monkey News:

1.) Teenage Monkey says " One time, at school, I stapled my hair."

2.) Middle Monkey says, " It takes 30 days to break a habit. "

I say, "What HABIT do you need to break?"

He says, "Chewing my toenails."

3.) Later this very same day I scream, "Do not jump on the trampoline with scissors." I did, I really really did.

4.) Finally, It looks like Lucy is not a girl and I was unable to explain to my monkeys that one rabbit was not trying to eat the other rabbit or take a ride on her back. I'm going to need some help with the "where babies come from" thing.

5.) I thought it was over, but apparently no. I kid you not. It is 10 pm and I hear giggling. I go in and check it out. #3 stapled his blanket to the ceiling.

Help me.

Fun With Asparagus

I found my first asparagus spears this morning

Baby Monkey grabbed them before anyone else could have any

It least it's not his tongue

The proof my kids actually eat their vegetables.Posted by Picasa

Something is Digging in My Garden.

Two days ago I cleaned up a wide row in the garden and planted snow peas in the back and lettuce in the front. It was going to be pretty and straight and colorful. I planted Mesclun Mix lettuce. Today I went out to water it and something had dug around in it. Didn't really ruin it, but it won't be nice and straight and pretty. I am pretty sure it was a cat. This is the story of my gardening life. I try to make something that is going to be pretty or I clean a room, or I close the cabinet doors. Later, something comes behind me and redistributes my work. Sigh.

Gazing Ball

Went to First Monday in Canton today. First Monday claims to be the biggest flea market in the world. Bought that pretty blue gazing ball, some hand cranked sewing machine attachments, and some linens. Had a great time. Should I paint the milk can red?Posted by Picasa

Stop No Go Really Really Fast.

We spent from Christmas until now just sitting here being cold and complaining. Now spring is here and everything starts at once. Soccer, baseball, and band concerts. My yard, my friends yard, my families yards, and all my clients yards need attention NOW. It won't slow down until July. Here we go.

Erosion Control

We have been trying to get my bests friends front yard to grow grass for three years. It looks like the soil is dead. We have put out compost and other organic fertilizer twice. The first year it dried out during our water restrictions. Last year it washed away in the flood. The yard is very small and has a pretty steep grade. There is also a live oak on one side and a maple of some kind on the other. I called my landscaper brother who told me about seed mats. The stuff is actually excelsior with a biodegradable netting attached to it. We put out compost and green sand again then put the stuff over that. When the time is right we will seed Bermuda right into the seed mat. Hopefully, this will stop most of, if not all the erosion. Let me know if any of you have used this with any success.

It happens Every Winter.

I cratered two days ago and spent most of the last two days in bed. It happens every single winter. I try and try to stay positive and not succumb to the cold wet depression of our weather. North Texas weather teases us. It is pretty one day, cold the next, cold and wet the next, and then so windy you can't stand up, rinse repeat. As a gardener, I can only take the yoyo weather, thus yoyo moods so long. Every single year I end up sleeping two of my days away. I get up and try to clean. I wash enough laundry so the monkeys can get an education. Then I go back to bed. I get up again and read. Then I get sleepy and decide it would be easier to read in bed. Of course, once in the bed, I fall back to sleep. I wake up at about 2:00 in the afternoon feel guilty and get up and do things. Tonight I went out in the cold, cold night and took a walk. I feel better and I don't think I will need to sleep so much tomorrow. What should we all do until spring arrives to keep us awake?
