How A Girl Mows the Lawn

My lawn is just beginning to grow. Mostly it is just winter weeds at this time of year. We only have a couple of tiny areas of lawn. I have converted everything I can into flower beds and gardens. Manly Man has managed to hang on to this little bit of grass. At this time of year there are many clumps of grape hyacinth growing and blooming amongst the grass and weeds. They are such a pretty color (hyacinths not the weeds).
I had to mow. We were beginning to look like the red neck yard of the month. Did I mow the little blue flowers down? No, I mowed around them. So here I am mowing in a drunken weaving path. I am sure it looked crazy to the neighbors. After about ten minutes of carefully avoiding the flowers, I look up and see Manly Man and neighbor J staring at me. Manly Man yells, "That is just wrong." He wanted me to mow the flowers down. Instead of doing that, I began to mow faster and more erratically. Then I mowed off into the ditch. The lawn has a bad haircut, but grape hyacinths are safe for another week.

  2. They were here when I bought the place and predate Manly Man. So they get to stay.

  3. Oh my God Aunt Debbi! That made me laugh so hard! Crazed hyacinth saving. I'm still laughing!

  5. I just read that there is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"!

  6. ROFLMBO! (As my good friend Anna would say...) Cheesehead would KILL me if I did that. He insists the yard be kept like a golf course, so I don't bother even trying to mow it for him. I'd be out there with my spade before he woke up to dig the flowers out of the yard though.

  7. LOL! Sounds like the lawn battles between me & DH, only here it's Scilla. I try to get out there & do it b4 he gets at it, & I try to do it when he's not home. I've taken to shoving sticks in the lawn as a mini palisade around the flowers.

How truely funny. I have not tried to build any fortifications around my flowers yet. Unfortunately for Manly Man, you have just inspired me.

Hi Cinj, My man has not mowed the yard in a while. One year he almost completely killed it. Once I got it organic, it became my job.

  9. I have been known to mow around violets - LOL! I know that many people think of them as an annoying weed, but I love them.

  11. LOL! I mow like that too. I even leave little circles of henbit for the bees. :)

  12. Vonne, If I left the henbit, I wouldn't have mowed at all.

  13. I do the same thing, I mow around daisies, clover, pretty little orange flowers whatever they are, mushrooms, etc. Mostly, my lawn looks pretty wild and uneven. I like it that way. I like yours too with all the blue flowers everywhere.

  14. Hi Salix, thanks for stopping by. It's great to know I am not the only one mowing like this.
