Rambling Around the Yard

Nothing really inspired me to blog today, so I just took a walk around the yard with the camera to see what was up.
The ox blood lilies are in full bloom. I always forget how many I have. They are also showing up on their own in some surprising places where I am pretty sure I did not plant them.

I like this container of hen and chicks with escheveria.

Four o'clocks are doing fine. For some reason the pink blooms opened this afternoon, but the yellow stayed shut. Maybe the yellow will bloom tomorrow.

This is an oddity. For some reason, the mock orange decided to put out a single bloom this fall. The normal bloom time for this shrub is early spring. I wish you could smell this flower. Garden bloggers need a scratch and sniff option on our side bars.

  1. Do your four o'clocks smell wonderful? I need to plant some of those. And I love the hens and chicks! Succulents are so much fun!

  5. Those oxblood lilies are spectacular, Debbi! I'd never even heard of them until all you Texans started showing us photos, and of course I want them, but wonder what zone they're hardy to? We're in Zone 6. And of course your hens-and-chickes and echeverias are adorable. Succulents rule!

  7. My Mock Orange has done that too. I love this time of year. We can finally get out and not have to come in and take a shower. I wish there were winter blooming flowers. I'd probably let the garden go in summer and garden all winter. But not here in NC--we have to sweat to death.

  8. Hi nola, mine just got started blooming too.

Thanks ofb, Sorry, but the oxblood lilies are only hard to zone 7a

    Thanks Curmudgeon.

Hi Anna, This is the first time I have ever noticed a fall bloom on mine. I am loving the fall weather this year.

  9. I always wanted a mock orange, too bad the varieties I've seen won't grow here wthout special care and bringing plants inside. The cats would shred any of those. I'd also adore jasmine. Heavenly smells. I had a penstemon that bloomed this fall too. Weird.

  11. I sure had to chuckle when you said that garden bloggers need a scratch and sniff option on their side bars! I've always thought should be true! LOL I have so many plants that I want to share the fragrance with all the other garden bloggers. A girl can dream, right?
