GBBD JANUARY 2009

This will be my saddest post for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day yet. Still it is fun to play. Thanks again to Carol of May Dreams Garden for hosting.

First is a fuzzy picture of a snap dragon. I waited until after work to take my pictures. Therefore, you can now imagine a crazy lady out in 34 degree weather, after dark trying to take pictures of flowers while the wind blows. I am nothing if not a dedicated garden blogger or maybe I am just cracked.

Second is a shot of my echeveria potted up with hen and chicks. The echeveria is winter sad, but I like the way the hen and chicks look. Their color seems more intense in the winter than in the summer.

Finally, a shot of a very sad amaryllis. It was purchased after Christmas and the stress of being in that box is obvious. I will plant it outside in a few weeks. Hopefully, it will give me a pretty bloom next August.

  1. I'm sure under your loving care the amaryllis will bounce back once it's outside. Then you can take of a picture of it when it's perky.

  2. Now that's serious dedication for you...going out in the near-freezing weather to snap your pictures!

  3. I planted an indoor amaryllis outside a few years ago, and it blooms beautifully every spring!
Debbi, do you leave your hens and chicks outside all winter? I put mine in the garage for fear of a freeze.

  4. Debbi - you're not crazy -- we all get that! It's commitment and we're glad your suffered the cold to share with us. I'm with you on the Amaryllis - no sign of bloom at all on mine. I'm bummed...but like you...hoping for next year. Happy GBBD. Stay warm.

  5. I am going to start referring to you as Crazy Garden Blogger lady. Also, when are you coming over to rescue my plants?

  6. Cindy, I am sure it will bounce back just fine when it is planted outside.

Hi lostlandscape, thanks for stopping by.

Linda, they are perennial. They even seem to do fine in a container, although a well drained raised bed would probably be better.

Hi Diana, thanks for the reassurance. Those late purchased amarylis are always a risk.

Hi Momo, If you were close, I would help save your plants. If you need any advise the crazy garden blogger lady will be glad to help.

  7. I'd say committed is the word for it, after all I did worse last month. I refused to venture outside this month, it was WAY too cold.
