Word Verification?

Recently I have received a lot of anonymous comments. Some of them have been from Japan and unreadable. There has been some rambling stuff that makes no sense and some unsolicited and stupid advise. Anyway, I am considering putting up word verification.

Let me know what you think.

  1. I have no problem with word verification (though I know some people do), but what's worked reasonably well at PATSP was turning on comment moderation for posts more than two weeks old. I still see the spam, but nobody else does. Obviously this is not so much of an option if the spam messages are happening on newer posts, but at PATSP it's been limited to one or two specific old posts.

  2. I hate word verification, but am certainly willing to do it if it gives you peace of mind, Debbi! That's a great thing about WordPress---they filter out spam automatically.

  4. I just do comment moderation on all posts so that none of the jibberish ever gets published. I had a faze where I was getting the Japanese characters too but it stopped.

  5. Thank you all for you input and ignoring my blaring spelling errors. {I should not try to write blog posts while checking out library books}. Anyway, I don't want to cause my friends any trouble, but I also do not want a bunch of spambots making this no fun. Still under consideration.

  6. I'm not wild about word verification, but had to add it myself a while back because I kept getting porno links posted and was tired of having to delete comments.

  8. See what I am having to deal with. That person makes a comment like that nonsense on every single post.

  9. I like comment moderation personally, it stops ALL spam when you set it to moderate "always", that way they can't sneak them onto old posts (like they try with me). Losers, anyhow! :(

  10. Your most excellent bulletin gives happiness for ED sufferers. Also coeds. Glorious thanksgiving as to term papers.

  12. I've been getting a lot of trash too; I figure google/blogspot changed something and now it's more appealing to spammers.
I HATE word verification; I opted for moderation, which is more trouble to the author, because you receive an email for each comment and must okay it for publication. But it is worth the trouble not to have all the spam showing up.
I keep getting that one you got about helping with their assignment, I guess it's making the rounds!

  13. I've been getting a ton of those, too. I have it set that I have to approve all comments rather than word verification. I hate doing word verification, but it doesn't keep me from leaving a comment.

  14. I had to do same, such garbled stupid messages from anonymous, that just didnt make any sense, then weather adverts of all things. I had to sucumb to the word verification, and I review others comments before I post them now, so wouldnt have to post the ones that are spam. But believe it or not, since using word verification I have not had one comment that isnt from a friend! So it does work, betty countryrosecorner xx

I don't use word verification because this way is so simple to stop that nonsense.
