More information on Rainwater Harvesting.

I received a couple of inquiries about the rainwater harvesting set up and the large container. First let me thank Joy for the link and sending some of you here. Click here, to visit her.

N's rainwater harvesting set up is very low tech. They simply catch the water in buckets under the drip line of a gardening shed. We dip our watering cans in and take the water to the greenhouse. The large tank is a recycled tank that held some sort of food product, maybe oil. It could be attached to a gutter down spout. N's husband simply uses a sump pump to syphon the water from the buckets into the large tank. I am sure this is more important in the summer as a means of mosquito control. We have not used the large tank at all this winter. There is a hose attached to the large tank. From there, the water is gravity fed through the hose to our plants. There is not much water pressure, but we don't need no stinking water pressure(sorry, the silly had to come out somewhere). Because it is opaque, I have not seen any algae in it so far. If it were clear plastic, it would need to be painted to avoid algae growth.

If you want a more sophisticated system, they are out there for sale. These set ups have a first catch tube to keep the main tank clean, use guttering to collect the water, and often have electric pumps to allow for drip irrigation or soaker hose use. There is also an equation that lets you know how much water you can collect per area of roof and inches of rain. I don't like to do math, but from what I have seen it is always A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER.

Baby Monkey's First Snow

Here is my horrible photo documentation of real snow in our yard. This is baby monkey's first snow, at least the first snow he will remember. It is also the first snow for Abby, Internet Police Dog. You can catch a glimpse of her dashing around the place in two of the pictures. The roads are not frozen, so we can drive. School is delayed two hours so the kids can play. We might not get this chance again for years. Gotta go -Manly Man has made beacon, eggs, and biscuits for breakfast.

Winter Weather One More Time

I know, I know, I cried wolf on Monday and we got nothin. But today, they are saying we are going to freeze and may get snow tonight. It is wet so there will be ice. Right now it is just a cold cold wet rain.

I know my northern and Canadian friends think I am being a big fat baby. Ya'll don't understand. We are unable to handle freezing water in this part of Texas. We can't drive. Our electricity goes out. We don't all have fire places. We have lost our mittens.

The driving is really a problem. We can barely handle cold water. You should have seen us trying to get to the quilt shop in the cold rain today. Some idiot decided to drive 17 miles an hour down the highway. We almost got creamed in the rear by an 18 wheeler because of this moron. Mamala had road rage. She said "Damn" a lot. If we actually get ice on the road we all will slide all over the place. Into ditches, into each other, into our garage doors. It's pretty much a pick-up-truck drivin rodeo.

We can't stand up on ice either. There will be booty bruises. It is kind of fun to stand at the back window and watch my neighbors fall down.

I'm staying home.

If I had a super power, it would be the ability to control the weather.

Blog Hopping Through Blotanical

I did it again with better results. I went blog hopping by out clicking on other peoples blogs and then out click from there, rinse repeat. This time I started with blogs on Blotanical and had a much better time. The blogs were happy about children and faith and flowers. I found more good company and had a much better time than before.
