I Tried, I really Tried

That baby squirrel won't stay out from underneath the potting bench. We even cleaned it out to make it less appealing. The baby ran up a near by tree and waited a while and then came right back. Teenage Monkey was still sorting pots and the squirrel moved right back in. I think Momma squirrel may have moved on so the baby is on it's own. We left it some pecans and water and left the potting bench in such a way that it can hide from the cats. In the meantime, I guess we have a squirrel to add to the menagere. I should be able to snap some pictures if it continues to insist the potting bench is home.

We Have a Situation

We have a maybe problem. A squirrel baby is living in my potting bench. His mom is nearby scolding us all. The baby looks at us all cute and stuff. The Manx can barely control themselves. My potting bench is the perfect place to be for a squirrel baby. There is no way any of us can get to it through all the stacked up plastic pots. My poor potting bench housekeeping skills have made this a perfect baby squirrel living/hiding arrangement. Our baby squirrel, who is yet unnamed, is very chatty. The bunnies are confused. I was afraid for its little life until I realized that apart from cleaning up the potting bench that nothing, not dog, cat, monkey, or gardener could get to the little guy when he/she starts burrowing through all those plastic pots. So do I just wait until he/she moves on? What if this is a permanent arrangement? Am I responsible for providing food for this squirrel? I'm sort of sick of listening to his mother complain.

While I wasn't paying attention, stuff started to bloom. The mutabalis rose and peach trees are in bloom. The tree is in a neighbor's yard. Do you think it is grafted or just a freak of nature?

The weather almost felt like summer. I even saw a mosquito. Serioiusly, a mosquito, in March. There are also May flies flying all over my house. Somebody, left the back door open and they invited themselves in. I really don't like May flies. They get into everything.

This is one of my favorite books. I love almost any thing by Dr. Seuss, but this is the best. The message is about greed and the outcome of greed on the enviornment. Still, it leaves us with the hope of that seed.

The little water garden was pretty gross. Leaves and other stuff had fallen into it and settled on the bottom. We had tried to clean it by taking out about half of the water and replacing it. All that did was stir up the mess. That pair of monkeys in the picture completely cleaned it out for me. We used the dirty fish water to fertilize in the vegetable garden.

 

This is a lot better.

More Baby Pictures

 

Here are pictures of the tomato babies I picked for my garden. They were taken from the nine cell packs and repotted into 4" pots. Next to them are two plants I bought from the hardware store. They are Russian Black Krim and Old German. I have never grown Old German before. The tomato babies include two that are new for me - Avivvi and Ladino di Panacchio. They are from the seed exchange hosted by Monica over at Faerie Garden. Now all I need are two Celebrities, a cherry, Green Zebra, and Yellow Pear.

A note on the container greenhouses. They work fantastic. No plants have burned. The Russian Black Krim and Old German were transplanted from 4" pots to 6" pots and placed directly in the larger container on February 24th. The Russian Black already has buds.
