Thanks a Lot Ike

We are all okay. We lost a tree limb or two and the Monkeys had to miss the last day of Cotton Festival, but it could have been a lot worse.
The rain barrel is full, so that is something.
Middle Monkey came in from outside to let us know the wind had picked up speed. How did he know? It almost knocked him out of the pecan tree. Anybody knows you don't climb a tree in a hurricane. Sometimes I think these boys have the common sense of plankton.

Here is the first of Mr. Carver's costumes. How do you like that paper cat mask?

  1. I have a grandson who is nearly five years old. From what I can personally ascertain, sense is something to them that is sensory-motivated. Like smelling food and things of bodily nature! Glad you're okay!

  2. Brenda, it was good to hear that you are out there, okay, and have power. I was worried your area might get the worst of it. sensory-motivated pretty much explains it. Still, you don't climb a tree during a hurricane:)

  3. The cat mask is great, Debbi! He looks very fierce now. But my favorite part of the post was the comment about plankton! I'll have to remember that one and use it on OFB at an opportune moment!---Silence

  4. Debbi--Glad you are ok. You are and Brenda are both further east and I think the storm was worse there. I thought of you both this afternoon. I hope My Corner of Katy is ok.
    Those monkeys! :)

  5. Meadowview thymes, I would think that you would have gotten it a lot worse being that close to Houston. I've been checking on our fellow texas garden bloggers this afternoon. Everyone seems to be accounted for. Thank goodness.

  6. Hey Silence, seriously, what was he thinking climbing a tree in a hurricane???????

I have more costume ideas for Mr. Carver. That cat mask was too easy. I printed it off of a kids craft website and cut it out.

  7. Glad you and yours came through it all without any major damage. Just think of the great story that will be when your son tells his grandkids about climbing the tree during hurricane Ike way back in '08!

  9. Those silly kids. At least he didn't fall out of the tree. Hopefully he also learned a valuable lesson. Sometimes they need to experience the whys of things before they comprehend those annoying things we like to utter at them. Glad to hear not too much damage there.

Mr. Carver has a wonderful mask.

  11. I do like Mr. Carver's mask. For today, he can be Kit Carver. There's got to be a cowboy carver in his future too.

Glad you are doing well after the storm. Boys think everything is adventure. Yours just got an extra dose thanks to mom. You have given your kids an opportunity to wonder about stuff. That is so good!

  13. Hi Anna, and thanks for the parenting compliment. Now if I can just keep them from falling off of the roof or something. I'm pretty sure we can come up with a cowboy creation.

Hi pgl, yep they do. Everything turned out fine regarding the storm. Thanks about the mask.
