Come on Already

Summer will not go away. Each night it is dropping into the 50s then right back up to 90 in the afternoon. I have five flats of snapdragons that need planting, yet I have to keep them in the shade so they won't wilt and look horrible. Therefore, they stay in their flats under a shade tree. Pansies and violas have to wait. Fall needs to get on with it. I want cool weather. I want October rains. I want to plant lettuce, broccoli, Swiss chard, sugar snap peas, collards, and cabbage. I do not want to sweat in the afternoon. I want the mosquitoes to die.

Fall - COME ON ALREADY.

Do you suppose this fit will change the weather?

At least I feel better. Thanks for letting me vent.

  1. I know....fall in Texas! I haven't even looked at pansies yet-I don't even know if they are out at my favorite garden centers. Hopefully cool weather will be here soon, but you know how our Octobers can be! :)

  3. O yes its fall in the north now, how fast...back in the tropics we do not have this sense of seasonal changes but I had stayed near New England and the Fall is delightful, albeit short .....nostalgia rotting on a log....

  4. Where did you find your snaps for fall? I've checked all the local nurseries, they act like I'm nuts, they'll all "have them in the spring". I have always loved the color and continual blooms of snapdragons in the winter!
To Meadowview thymes, no pansies to be found here, yet, either.

  5. Hi hort log, I loved your BS post. Thanks for visiting.

Nola, I actually run a little garden design/service company. When I say little, I mean tiny. Anyway, I can buy wholesale. Snaps sell out fast, so I buy them earlier than they should be planted. Then I put them in the shade and wait for cool. You might try Village Plant Farm in Rosser. If they don't have them, they might be able to order them from Greenlake if there are any left. I feel like snaps are better than pansies. They are taller and usually last all winter around here. Okay, sorry maybe this is to much information.

  6. It's good to see you today! I guess I shouldn't rub it in that my pansies are thriving....

Snapdragons won't make it through out winter but I plant them in early spring.

I'm hoping for you that cool weather comes along cause it does just put you in a better mood.

  8. Amen to that!!!!! I couldn't have said it better myself. Come ON already. I finally relented and put up fall decorations around the living room... and the air conditioner was blowing full blast.

  9. It's amusing that while you're complaining about the heat I'm complaining about the cold. One of the joys of world wide blogging :-)

  10. Fall is here, that's for sure. It was so cool yesterday I had to wear a jacket all day. I've been getting lots done inside with all of the cool days and wet weather. I still need to get some staining done, I hoped to be able to get it all done outside but I'm not so sure that's going to happen!

  12. Cindy, I've got a pumpkin and an artemesia wreath. They seem out of place in the heat.
