Recently, I have not had as much time for blogging. I have been using my blogging time to work out. Yes, every day I have been going to the gym and trying to take care of this middle aged body that is showing signs of breaking down if I don't take drastic measures.

I've shared before that my blood pressure has been a problem. Well, recent lab work revealed some other potential problems with triglycerides and blood sugar. Nothing is at crisis level, just needs to be turned around now.

This is week three and I have lost six pounds, my blood pressure has responded nicely and I have much much more energy throughout the day. The added energy has led to more working in the garden, which looks pretty good if I do say so myself.

Two other very weird but great things happened (guys you might want to stop reading now). I started having hot flashes about two years ago. Not severe, but annoying as hell. I have not had a hot flash in three weeks. The only thing that has changed is the exercise. Also, I have really badly calloused feet. They split and crack looking awful and hurt terribly. My feet are now nice and smooth. It has to be wearing tennis shoes and socks every day.

I will get back to garden blogging soon. Maybe not as frequently as before, but I miss it and y'all.

  1. Thats really great! It's amazing what excercise can do. I know it cheers me up greatly. I am going to head outside and do some walking today since it's gorgeous out. It rained all day yesterday. All I have been doing for the last six weeks is sitting on butt in the house. Soooo depressing!

  3. Hey Aunt Debbi! Glad you're back. You are getting some great results, wow! The WWWs are way too familiar with all the health issues you mentioned. We have Diva Dog to thank for helping us turn things around. Nothing gets you out of bed in the morning like 80lbs of GSD wanting to go, go, go--and the cold wet nose works wonders when it comes to prodding sleepy wenches out of bed. LOL! But considering how much she eats, a gym membership might have been cheaper!

  4. Forget blogging, you're taking care of yourself now, when it counts, so great for you and for your boys, you'll be around a lot longer if you keep this up.

I too am focussing on my health now I've turned 50. Well I'm trying anyway.

Keep up the good work Deb!

  5. Good for you! I joined the gym and work out 3 days a week with weights, and twice a week on the eliptical. I have asthma and allergies and my extra weight makes it hard for me to breath. I have also formed a long overdue relationship with Weight Watchers, and I know that is going to help me a lot. I am going to have to limit sitting at this computer for awhile, too.

You might want to try some Black Cohosh for the hot flashes. It is an herb, find it in with the vitamins. It helped me a lot.

  6. Good for you Debbi! I am glad you are working out and didn't have the flu which I feared.
My sister had a massive heart attack when she was 47. Long story...but she did survive. Take care of yourself--and pat yourself on the back for doing such a great job!

  9. Congrats on the progress, that's great. Who knew you'd get all of those benefits when you started? I think there's a lot of that not having time to blog going around.

  10. Glad you're working out. I am also, and I went back to Weight Watchers. Would love to tell you I don't get hot flashes anymore, but I so do. However, tennies and socks do makes a girl's feet all nice.~~Dee
